This image reflects the centering of Black Brooklyn in front of the grandiose Brooklyn Academy of Music. Whether members of BAM or simply passersby, the group of about 12 black people command the frame and enliven the creative multi-arts center behind them.
The volunteer for this site of memory is an adventurous artist and natural-born creative who has been singing, dancing, and performing for as long as I’ve known her. While recalling the memory of this site, she spoke about her childhood memories of practicing in the downtown area which aptly evoked the creative space these members of Black Brooklyn commanded.
