Brownsville Map

This map of Brownsville was a forward looking map, considering renovations and additions to the material landscape. As Dolores Hayden states in The Power of Place, “change over time can be traced in incremental modifications of space as much as in an original city plan or building plan.” Particularly intriguing for the project is the planning, whether assumed in the process or not, and how these incremental material changes would service (or disservice) this predominantly black community.

The volunteer is a friend to my sister and resident of an adjacent neighborhood. She has a family member in Brownsville, and passes through Brownsville regularly to get to other parts of Brooklyn.
